Corduff F.C maintained it’s unbeaten start to the premier ‘A’ season with a very good one goal win out in Ballymun’s all new and excellent football complex.

This fixture was the toughest one when the first four fixtures were released a number of weeks ago and a game we all looked forward to. Ballymun utd were the club we tried to emulate almost ten years ago when we sat in div 2 sat - we (John McGuinness, David Bates and the late David Lynch) went to watch Ballymun in the old san siro (against Liffey wanderers, Ballymun winning 3-1 after going a goal down) to see what the highest division was all about and what the dominant team at the time was like.

Since then, we of course reached premier ‘A’ but never played Ballymun in Ballymun so this fixture was the first time all of what we have tried to do in this club had come full circle. To win last nights game was a massive boost to the squad and to the club generally and although we may not be the best side around, we are certainly rebuilding again and have a team with an average age of 23.

The game it’s self was well contested. The fantastic pitch was slightly longer than usual and this encouraged some long ball at times. Corduff had chances and Ballymun had chances, but Corduff were good for the lead as it was the first clear chance to either side up to that point. Paul McCullough was fed an excellent ball half way through the first half and he skipped through the middle and put through a fantastic ball in front of man of the match John Dowling who chipped the ball over the keeper for a finish as good as any.

John had a super chance to make it 2-0 in the second half but John being John, he went Kamangy:)

Ballymun had two chances of note. They hit the outside of the post from an awkward angle and Davey Doyle kept out a Davey Kane chance brilliantly.

It’s early doors but a good start takes the pressure off. Congratulations to Terry Corbally and Mark Kelly on a great start.

THINK YOUR GOOD ENOUGH??? COME ON DOWN AND PROVE IT. WE HAVE REGISTRATION FORMS AND SIGNING ON FORMS:)

Tomorrow Saturday the 13th of August will see our new under 7s take to the field for the first time ever. Not only will they be seeing their first action before their season kicks off, but so too will six other clubs. The under 7 soccer blitz is a way to get all clubs concerned some action for these new teams. No doubt in years to come, parents, manager and clubs will look back and note the day these lads played their first real games.

Come down and enjoy the football from 11am to 2pm on the Corduff synthetic pitch.

Seven days of football from under 8 to under 14 is now complete. The Lynchy underage memorial was a big success and has perhaps become the largest off season tournament in Dublin.

With a total of almost 64 teams competing over the week and a massive amount of games, this was a very tough tournament to run, however it ran fantastically well and the football was excellent at all ages. This tournament has hopefully set-up the teams from all clubs nicely for the start of the season and I’d like to thank the teams and clubs who entered and in making this tournament a success.

The area has received it’s knockers and we still deal with them but the competition will certainly picture Corduff as a much better area than some would assume.

The finals day in particular brought out a very sizable crowd and the weather was fantastic.
A special note of thanks to Woodlawn FC who enter a team at every age annually.
Best of luck to all teams in their upcoming season. Up the Duff.

UNDER 7S. A soccer blitz is bring ran this Saturday in Corduff for new under 7s. A €20 fee per team to cover costs is all we are charging. Please email me on johnymcguinness@hotmail.com or call or txt on 0857168009 if interested. Entries will be closed tomorrow Tuesday the 10th of August as we have enough to run this competition but are open to more teams.
